Exploring key trends in computational science, and their impact on computing education:
1) Learning to program is getting harder.  Many of the features that make computers easier to use also raise the barrier between users and programmers.
2) Computational science is embracing software engineering tools and practices as keys to reproducible, reliable science.
3) Statistics in the undergraduate curriculum is being edged out by data science.  Will K-12 follow?

Allen Downey is a Professor of Computer Science at Olin College in Needham MA, and the author of Think Python, Think Bayes, Think Stats and several other books related to computer science and data science., Olin College
